                                  ABOUT WASHTA BAY


                                        
Washta Bay is a small, home based breeder of Siberian cats, located near Minneapolis, Minnesota. The goal of my breeding program is to produce healthy, well typed cats with outstanding temperaments.  Our cats are all imported direct from Russia from highly respected World and European championship lines.  Washta Bay cats are registered and shown in the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA).   

I have loved being around cats my entire life, and have always been especially attracted to the natural cat breeds (such as Maine Coons, Norwegian Forest Cats and Siberians).  I could always be counted on to be the first one out to the barn when the new kittens arrived at either of my grandparents farms to make sure all the kittens had plenty of playing time with me. 

I discovered Siberians by hearing rumors that there are hypoallergenic cats out there that people with allergies can often tolerate, and many will actually have no reactions to them.  Just as many people do, I assumed they would have little or no hair.  Was I wrong!  When I saw my first Siberian, I was hooked, plain and simple, allergies or no allergies.  I just love the roundness of their features, their beautiful coats (especially their wonderful winter coats in colder climates), and second-to-none personalities.  

Siberians come in all different colors.  I must admit that my favorite is the traditional "wild" look of our dear queens Junona and Rosinka.  All of our kittens will have this look.

Siberians are friendly and affectionate, many enjoy greeting visitors, travelling, and playing with their people and other animals, such as the family dog. They are wonderful companions, and having minimal allergic reactions for me or my family members and friends is just an added bonus.  Even though they are a semi-long haired breed, most are relatively low maintenance when it comes to grooming, which is a big plus in my house.
